Summary. Experimental osteoarthritis of the stifle joint in dogs was modeled by immobilization of both stifle joints with the Ilizarov apparatus and dissection of the femoral artery. The studied material was blood serum of 30 dogs. Ten dogs were intact, 14 with an early stage of osteoarthritis (28 days of the experiment), and six - with a late stage of osteoarthritis (56 days of the experiment). Osteoarthritis was defined according to clinical and radiographic signs in the joints. Biochemical parameters were studied at the stages of the experiment. Purpose of the study was to reveal the changes in lipid peroxidation (LPO) and protein oxidation modification (POM) in the experimental animals at different stages of the experiment. The results of this study showed statistically significant changes in the serum content of the dogs at different stages of the pathological processes. A decrease in the concentrations of primary and secondary products of lipid peroxidation in the late stage was noted while it was not observed in the early OA stage. The concentrations of protein aldehydes were reduced in the products of oxidative modification both at early and late stages of the pathological process. A statistically significant increase in the concentrations of a2-globulin, p-globulin and y-globulin fractions indicates the presence of inflammation and chronic forms of the disease. The results obtained in the study may be used for early diagnosis of the pathological process in major joints and be an additional information when diagnosis is established.
