Summary. In the Republic of Burundi, the increase in the number of productive animals is significantly hampered by outbreaks of parasitic diseases, among which coccidiosis in the large horned cattle causes serious economic losses. The hot climate contributes to the severe course of the disease with a high mortality rate (30%). The lack of treatment measures and a system for preventing coccidiosis leads to large economic losses from this disease. When analyzing the spread of coccidiosis in the republic, the authors noted that the largest number of cases in Burundi were detected in the province of Kayanza (more than 80% of all cases of coccidiosis in the country). The incidence of the disease among young animals reaches 100%. This is due to the unsanitary conditions in which farm animals are kept. In a biochemical study of the blood serum of sick calves, the indicators of total protein in the serum and urea significantly change. The authors tested a new drug for the Republic of Burundi, amprolium, in comparison with the traditional regimen used by veterinarians to treat coccidiosis. When using the new drug, the duration of treatment was 3 days shorter, diarrhea syndrome and intoxication were less pronounced. In this regard, the authors recommend that veterinary specialists use the drug amprolium for health improvement at a rate of 10 mg/kg orally with feed for 5 days. To prevent coccidiosis in cattle farms, the authors recommend implementing a set of veterinary and sanitary measures.
