Ranking of chemical risks in food products and fodders on degree of danger

Summary. Risk analysis is one of the most effective methods of food and feed quality and safety monitoring, recommended by international organizations. It is based on chemicals' ranking depending on the damage that they can cause for people's health. The application of the risk analysis method will allow to minimize the damage caused by hazardous chemicals and to optimize the government supervisory measures. The suggested ranking registers any scientific evidence of potential harm as opposed to the technique applied by international expert organizations. The long-term experience of the expert collectives of FAO and WHO demonstrates that the chemical compounds, that were initially estimated as controversial, gradually transfer into the group of hazardous and appropriately controlled substances as the further data are collected (like glyphosate). The ranking technique, developed in correlation with the international standards, was applied to the groups of chemical substances that must be monitored by Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor). The resulting ranking can be used to plan the future monitoring, although the realization of the full risk assessment mechanism on the domestic base of scientific potential, tried and tested administrative industry-specific strategies, economic and other peculiarities requires a lot of practical work. The ranking technique has been developed recently and for the moment includes only the most hazardous chemical features. In the future other features will be added. As for the ranking of hazardous chemicals, the aim is to collect primary experimental material in accordance with the modern scientific standards. The presentation of the scientific grounds allows to protect the agricultural complex in an appropriate way and make better decisions concerning mutually profitable international trade regulation. Broad participation in the animal production trade in the near future is determined by the present-day success in the agricultural sector.
