Immunohaematological indices of growing pigs

Summary. Immune and haematological studies were conducted on clinically healthy pigs from one to six months of age in farms, unfavorable for infectious diseases. No abnormalities in the cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive systems in experimental animals were revealed. Average live weight of animals matched for age. It was found that maximum content of red blood cells, hemoglobin and hematocrit is observed in animals at the age of 5-6 months in the region of the Middle Urals. High number of white blood cells was observed in animals of all ages. Maximum number of leukocytes was found in pigs of 3-4 months of age, which is to 34.6% more than in animals of 1-2 months of age and to 65% more than the upper limit of the regional standards – 7,0-16,0 th/mcl. Low levels of T- and B-index in animals of all age groups at the minimum in animals of 1-2 months of age – 0,83 ± 0,07 may indicate deficiency of cellular immunity, as an index of T- and B-lymphocytes at physiologically normal functioning of the immune system is determined to be 1.5-2 u. High rates of T- and B-cell lymphocyte populations and circulating immune complexes in 3-4-month animals indicate a high degree of activation of nonspecific protection of the organism in this age. Authors suggested that it is necessary to conduct researches of regulatory indicators, taking into account the technology of feeding and territorial peculiarities of the region.
