Summary

Infectious rhinotracheitis is characterized by lesions of the upper respiratory tract, pneumonia, vaginitis, endometritis, encephalitis, conjunctivitis, arthritis, balanoposthitis, abortion and stillbirth in pregnant cows. Economic damage is made up of: not getting the offspring due to abortion and stillbirth (5-30%), birth of non-viable calves (10%), reducing milk yield (50-60%), death of young animals with pneumonia (20%), receiving less weight gain of live weight (50-70%) and decline of 5-10% of calves per 100 cows.

Three types of herpes virus are identified in Russia. Sick animals and virus carriers are the source of the pathogen, which can be transmitted aerogenic or by contact, through infected semen, feed, water, transport. Cattle, goats, deer, antelope, buffalo, pigs are susceptible to the virus of IRT. Data on the methods and means of control and prevention of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis are presented in the article.

Key words: cattle, virus carriers, herpesvirus, strains, tropism, respiratory and reproductive organs.
