UDC 619:616.98:518.842.1 ADAPTATION OF SENTINEL METHOD FOR BIOLOGICAL CONTROL OF AFRICAN SWINE FEVER IN PIG FARMS Dzhailidi G.A., Chernykh O.Yu., Kurinnov V.V., Strizhakova O.M. Summary. Replication of the virus in the body of infected pigs at acute and subacute form of African swine fever is accompanied by excretion of the virus with nasal and lacrimal secrets, saliva, feces, urine already in the incubation period, and bleeding during the development of infection. The basic idea of biological control is the content of sentinel pigs in previously disadvantaged areas within 45 days, in the case of residual amounts of virulent ASF virus oral infection will happen through contact with contaminated surfaces, and it will be detected either by clinical signs (changes in behavior, loss of appetite and depression, increased body temperature above 40°C), or serologically by detection of specific antibodies, or laboratory methods at the end of the observation period. Piglets of rearing or first period of fattening group are to be bought only in the farm from one owner with confirmed health status in relation to acute viral (African swine fever, classical swine fever, Aujeszky’s disease), bacterial (erysipelas, pasteurellosis, hydropic disease) diseases, enterotoxaemia and poisoning. Sentinel piglets are labeled and placed regardless of the localization of the fixed outbreak and kept in compliance with all technological norms for at least 45 days (three 15-day incubation period). On the absence of ASF virus can be argued, if signs of disease or death were not detected after at least 45 days in pigs and results of laboratory methods with 100% sample of animals (absence of virus in the blood, confirmed with PCR and the absence of specific antibodies to ASF, vindicated indirect ELISA) were found to be negative. If biological control is carried out with negative results before mentioned 6 months, sentinel piglets are grouped and fed to marketable conditions, while sows, boars are moved to reproducer.
