Summary. Data on ecological peculiarities of nodular dermatitis (Lumpy skin disease) of large horned cattle, registered in 2015-2017 in the Russian Federation are presented in the article. Appearance of epizootic foci in the flat zone pastures was associated with uncontrolled movement of infected and sick animals from the primary disadvantaged points of the mountainous zone. Outbreaks of nodular dermatitis were recorded north of 43°N. (northern regions of the Republic of Dagestan and the Chechen Republic) in 2015; north of 53°N. (Tambov and Ryazan regions) - in 2016. These are the northernmost territories where nodular dermatitis was detected in the history of infection registration. The main vector of the spread of nodular dermatitis was the direction from the south to the north and the northeast. Outbreaks were registered in Saratov region in June-July and in Orenburg region in July 2017. Nodular dermatitis was also found in large horned cattle in Volgograd and Samara regions. Nodular dermatitis causes great economic losses to livestock, caused by the death of infected animals, loss of productivity, utilization of milk from sick cows, the cost of medication and disinfectants. The disease has also a social significance, as often diseased animals are the only means of subsistence for the owners. A large number of diseased large horned cattle can be explained by the large concentration of animals in the premises and the aerogenic method of the virus spread. Keywords: nodular dermatitis (Lumpy skin disease), large horned cattle, source of the virus, infection gates, ways and mechanisms of virus spread, dairy productivity, viremia, abortion, economic damage, death of sick animals, respiratory pathology.
