Hematological profile of carnivores at mastitis

Summary. Currently, the problem of the mammary gland diseases in cats is becoming more and more urgent. Most often, animal owners treat this pathology in order to preserve the productivity of cats and the viability of the offspring. The results of studies of blood samples from cats with mastitis are presented in the article. The studies were carried out in the laboratories of the North Caucasian Zonal Scientific Research Veterinary Institute, as well as in the state veterinary clinics of Rostov-on-Don during 2020. The study included cats with signs of mastitis. In order to obtain reliable data, outbred unsterilized cats aged 6-8 years were subjected to the study. All animals underwent general and special clinical research. One of the aims of the research was to determine the presence of concomitant pathology in animals. At the next stage of the research, blood was taken from cats for morphological and biochemical analysis, as well as in order to determine the presence of an inflammatory process and to reveal information about the functional state of the body as a whole, organs separately. In the course of the research, it was found that in cats diagnosed with mastitis, obstetric pathology, diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract, as well as diseases of the digestive system were most often noted as concomitants. A morphological study of the blood of cats with inflammation of the mammary gland revealed an increased level of leukocytes and erythrocyte sedimentation rate, which indicates a pronounced inflammatory response of the organism. Also, the studied animals showed an increase in the content of stab neutrophils, which is characteristic of the inflammatory process of bacterial etiology. By the biochemical analysis of the cats' blood it was found that the studied animals have concomitant diseases in the form of obstetric pathology, and diseases of the genitourinary system in the form of kidney pathology are also quite common. Also, the studied cats have the increased level of alkaline phosphatase, which indicates impaired pancreatic function.
