Summary. Foot-and-mouth disease is an acute, highly contagious, transmissible disease with vesicular syndrome, affecting domestic and wild cloven-hoofed and mesophagous animals. Foot-and-mouth disease is recognized as an endemic disease of large and small cattle in the countries of the Middle East, where cattle is the key branch of the economy. Official data on the epizootic situation for foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) type A in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Armenia and Turkey for the period of 2005-2016 are presented in the article. It was found that the most number of outbreaks of the disease in these countries were caused by FMD virus type A, belonging to new genetic lines A/Iran-05 and G-VII topotype Asia and using in countries for FMD vaccination. The new lines were distinguished antigenically by the vaccine strains used in the country during certain time intervals. Due to the existing risk of the spread of new genetic lines in Central Asia and Transcaucasia it is necessary to do research to the selection and preparation of new vaccine strains of FMD virus type Ato include in composition of FmD vaccine.
