EFFIСACY OF ß-BLOCKER PROPRANOLOL FOR PREVENTION OF CRITICAL LOSS OF LIVE WEIGHT OF CALVED COWS

Summary. Increase in the number of specialized dairy breeds in the farms of Krasnodar region is carried out due to mass import of Holstein purebred cows, heifers. They are characterized by high productivity and insistence to feeding and keeping conditions, which leads to frequent culling. Farms, in which productivity reached 6000 kg of milk per 1 cow, faced a number of problems hindering further progress in dairy cattle. These problems relate slower growth or even reduce of productivity and extremely low reproduction. Authors found that causes of premature culling of cows in the farms of Krasnoarmeysky district of Krasnodar region and TF "Kuban" of the Kuban State Agrarian University are similar. Thus, on average 30% of the culling is due to metabolic disorders in animals and postnatal complications. The experiments established that the use of injectable form of β-blocker propranolol stimulates generic activities, accelerates separation of the placenta and reduces the number of "heavy" calving. Moreover, the efficiency of the use of the preparation is more expressed when injected to animals with a lower bodyweight at first insemination and before calving. In the scheme of the use of loss of body weight is reduced by an average of 50%, a critical loss of body weight can be prevented in 45% of heifers, which increases the rate of productive longevity of cows and reduces the percentage of the annual culling. Authors recommend to use an injection of 0.25% solution of propranolol at the rate of 2 ml per 1 head, intramuscularly, daily, once - during the 14 days prior to calving to reduce the loss of body weight of heifers and mature cows and index of culling.

Keywords: heifers, blocker propranolol, a critical period, metabolic diseases, dairy farming, productive longevity, ketosis, culling.
