UDC 619:615.9]:636. 087.7 EVALUATION OF ACUTE TOXICITY AND IRRITATION OF PROBIOTIC FEED ADDITIVE "PROMOMIX C" Petenko A.I., Shirina A.A., Lysenko Yu.A., Yakubenko E.V., Petenko I.A. Summary. For toxicological evaluation of new probiotic additive "Promomix C", which is a mixture of lactic acid and propionic acid microorganisms on dry immobilizing carriers have prebiotic, antitoxic and sorption properties on the acute oral toxicity, skin-resorptive and irritating effect on the mucous membranes of the eyes and mouth cavity authors conducted experiments on mice, rats, rabbits, and hamsters. Evaluation of acute toxicity was carried out on clinically healthy mongrel white mice by a single dose of probiotics in the feed mixture on an empty stomach after a 12-hour famine exposure. It has been found that single oral probiotic use does not cause toxic effects and loss in laboratory animals. Laboratory animals were mobile, response to external stimuli remained the same. Violations of the functional activity of the digestive and urinary systems have been identified. Study of skin-resorptive action was carried on mature albino rabbits by skin application. In the course of studies no local redness, sensitivity, swelling, inflammation, skin erythema and edema was noted. Authors noted no clouding of the cornea and no chemosis (conjunctival edema), iris had no visible changes. Healthy mature hamsters were used for studies of the irritant effect on the oral mucosa. Soaked beads were placed directly into one cheek pouch of each animal while the other served as a control. Contact with the oral mucosa material was five minutes. Redness, swelling, erythema and edema formation was not registered. As a result of experiments on the toxicological properties of the probiotic feed additive "Promomix C" is was established that in terms of acute toxicity it relates to low-toxic preparations due to the fact that half-lethal dose has not been determined. Key words: probiotics, feed additive, laboratory animals, mouse, rat, rabbit, hamster, behavior, toxicity, application, appetite, dose. References 1.
