The growing needs of the population in high-value animal products, in particular meat and milk, determine the need of further development of animal husbandry and pose difficult tasks before veterinary science and practice to improve the system of veterinary and sanitary measures in order to reduce economic losses from deaths, abortions, birth of an unviable fetus and improve the quality of food. An important point in solving of this problem is the elimination of infectious diseases of farm animals, one of which is brucellosis. This infection is transmitted through direct or indirect contact with sick animals (natural animal secretions), animal products, including the consumption of raw milk, fermented dairy products, and heat-insufficiently processed meat. According to official data, brucellosis is registered in the regions of the Middle East and the Mediterranean, Africa, South and Central America, Central and South Asia, Caucasus and Eastern Europe. The reason of this prevalence is that this disease occurs mainly in a chronic form without clinical signs, which in turn makes it difficult to timely cull sick animals. In the Russian Federation, the epizootic situation on brucellosis continues to be tense and is being registered in all Federal districts. The most newly registered disadvantaged settlements in the period 2020-2023 - in the Southern Federal District - 33, 17 of which are in the Republic of Kalmykia; Siberian - 36, 18 of which are in the Novosibirsk region; North Caucasus - 68, 62 of which are in Dagestan Republic. Keywords: brucellosis, spread, infection, small cattle, Russian Federation.
