Epizootic situation on bovine leucose in farms of Krasnodar region

Summary. Bovine leucose is a chronic, infectious disease with an irreversible process. The emergence and progression of the disease are due to the bovine leukemia virus, genetic predisposition and immunological deficiency of the organism. The disease is most widespread in countries with developed animal husbandry, as it leads not only to death and premature culling of animals, but also threatens the preservation of breeding herds, conducting breeding work in order to improve the productive qualities of dairy cattle. Data on the dynamics of the epizootic process of cattle leukemia in the farms of Krasnodar region from 1971 to the present times are presented in the article. Authors showed that the implementation of adopted in the region plans aimed at improving the livestock of large horned cattle from bovine leucose brought tangible results: the infection rate for 15 years decreased from 54.3% (2004) to 4.27% (2018) or 12.7 times. The incidence of leucose over the same period decreased 4 times - from 1% to 0.25%. Authors proposed the principles of recovery at farms containing livestock on one complex without the possibility of separate rearing of RID-negative young animals. According to the proposed principle, a number of farms were improved, using new methods for the early detection of the frequency of transmission of bovine leukemia virus in the improved farms of the region. It was proved that the duration of colostral immunity is more than 4.5 months by the method of RID in 15-20% of calves that received colostrum from infected cows. The ongoing activities aimed at improving the livestock of large horned cattle from leucose, systematically lead to the final recovery of the region.
