Salmonellosis is an infectious disease caused by different serotypes of bacteria of the genus Salmonella. Disease affects all species of animals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and people.

Different types of salmonella isolated from a wide range of species of birds in many countries around the world. Wild birds are rarely involved in the epizootics of salmonellosis. They are usually asymptomatic carriers of Salmonella, as evidenced by the recent isolation of only the intestine. Carriers of salmonella found among many mammals and amphibians, fishes, reptiles.

There is a high incidence of salmonellosis among zoo animals. According to research conducted by veterinary laboratories of Krasnodar region in 2011 most distinguished culture of Salmonella was group D. Most often the disease was observed in birds.

The most common infectious agents of humans are strains - S. typhimurium, S. enteritidis. Human disease is associated with the consumption of infected food. Setting the sensitivity to antibiotics showed that Salmonella isolates are resistant to canamycin, carbenicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin and others. Found that Salmonella isolated from reptiles, acquire resistance to antibiotics quickly.
