Mass diseases of small ruminants, characterized by vesicular-erosive lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral and nasal cavities, scalp, udder and distal parts of the limbs

Summary. The greatest economic damage among infectious diseases of small ruminants is caused by transboundary infections, that are diseases of great economic significance, importance for trade and food security, which can easily spread to other territories and become a subject to mandatory declaration. The authors analyzed the available data on mass diseases of small ruminants, characterized by vesicular-erosive lesions of the mucous membranes of the oral and nasal cavities, scalp, udder and distal parts of the limbs, and their differential diagnosis. It has been confirmed that the time factor plays a decisive role in the effectiveness of anti foot-and-mouth disease measures, since untimely detection of foot-and-mouth disease leads to severe economic consequences both for the specific farm where foot-and-mouth disease occurred, and for the entire region, and for the country. The presented data indicate that in order to increase the efficiency of the passive control of foot-and-mouth disease, it is necessary to improve the qualifications of veterinary specialists and animal owners on the problem of mass diseases of sheep and goats, characterized by vesicular erosive lesions of the skin of the mammary gland and distal areas of the limbs. It is known that the clinical signs of foot-and-mouth disease in animals immunized with the foot-and-mouth disease vaccine differ from those in uninfected animals.
