Pig breeding industry is one of the most important branches of animal husbandry, which is rapidly developing. Infectious diseases hold back intensive development of pig breeding. African swine fever is among the most dangerous ones. According to the International Epizootic Offi ce (OIE) ASF in case of disease greatly infl uences the economy of the country in connection with the mass morbidity of pigs. Currently there is a diffi cult and tense epizootic situation on African swine fever in Russia – state and private farms bear the enormous economic damage from this infectious disease. Quarantine measures covering the territory up to 150 kilometers are introduced in case of ASF, that affects the economic relations with other farms and regions. Quarantine measures may be canceled after 30 days post elimination of all pigs in the epizootic focus and slaughter of pigs in the 1st endangered zone. Activities for elimination and prevention of African swine fever in Krasnodar region are described in the article. State Veterinary Department of Krasnodar region organized and conducted activities for eradication, prevention of skidding and spread of African swine fever in the region. Transfer of pig breeding industry in the farms with the middle and high level of biological protection, increased surveillance over the movement of animal products, serological and virological monitoring at all farms, during transportation and slaughter of pigs, decline in number of wild boar signifi cantly improved epizootic situation on African swine fever in Krasnodar region. The region’s economy ceased to suffer losses due to the disposal of pigs in foci and in the fi rst endangered zone, loss of market pig production, carrying out quarantine measures. Revival of pig breeding industry as branch of animal husbandry in Krasnodar region has begun since 2014. Investors started to invest heavily in the development of business, meanwhile meat industry began to recover.
