Summary. Authors conducted a study of the probiotic properties of new strains of L. acidophilus in vitro to determine the possibility of their use in poultry farming. Six strains of L. acidophilus were studied, the antagonistic potential of which was determined by the plate method. The strains L. acidophilus IV8 and L. acidophilus IV72 had relatively high antimicrobial activity against pathogens of intestinal infections in young poultry. Incubation of their bacterial cells (2.60x109 and 5.14x109 CFU/mL, respectively) in liquid MRS medium containing 1 and 5% broiler bile for 6 h showed their resistance. In the medium with 1% bile, the survival rate of strains IV8 and IV72 was 41.9 and 26.3%, respectively, in the presence of 5% bile, 18.0 and 8.4% relative to the control. Determination of the resistance of lactobacilli in media with approximate pH values to the conditions of various parts of the birds’ digestive tract showed a slight decrease in the number of viable bacterial cells relative to the number of microorganisms at the beginning of the experiment. As a result of successive keeping in media with pH 5.0, 3.0 and 7.0 (corresponding to the goiter, stomach and intestines), the number of viable cells of strain IV8 was 2.1x109 CFU/ml, which corresponds to 80.8% of the initial concentration of lactobacilli cells. Both strains of lactobacilli are capable of secreting extracellular hydrolytic enzymes into the medium. The highest activity of cellulase and amylase (0.52 ± 0.02 U/ml and 3.97±0.09 U/ml, respectively) was possessed by strain IV8: 1.4 and 1.3 times higher compared to the level production of these enzymes in strain IV72. Strain IV72 was characterized by a higher level of biosynthesis of protease, phytase and lipase compared to strain IV8 (respectively 0.26±0.03 U/ml, 0.33±0.02 U/ml and 4.24±0,15 U/ml), the activity of which was higher by 2.2, 1.7 and 1.6 times, respectively.
