Summary. Author studied anatomical, morphological and physiological features of dogs' nasal plane, allowing to use nasal plane as the object of the research at dogs' forensic and veterinary identification. Therefore, author also studied the fetus of dogs on 45 day of gestation, histologic specimen sections of nasal plane, digital photos and prints of nasal planes of dogs. It has been found that the epidermis tissues have only 3 layers - horny, spinous and basal, herewith epidermis is highly keratinized that makes it very solid. Nasal plane is divided into two equal halves by sagittal sulcus, which forms the line of nose symmetry on the print. It is found that papillary crests of the skin have polygonal form, different sizes and height. They can form the groups and irregular figures on the print which, along with the deep furrows forming marked colorless lines, creates the separate elements of the pattern on the prints, allowing to use it as private signs for identification in forensic and veterinary identification of dogs. In the course of study, there were found 4 types of crests, located in one plane: large, medium and small crests (there are large, medium and/or small crests in the same plane) and the variability of its distribution among studies animals. On the basis of the foregoing we can make the conclusion that as part of the study it was found the scientific justification of the possibility to use the nasal plane of prints for forensic and veterinary identification of dogs.
Keywords: forensic veterinary dog identification, nasal plane, sagittal sulcus, crested skin, nasal plane imprint, epidermis, dermis, crest count, symmetry line branches, papillary pattern.
