Summary. Indices of «lipid peroxidation - antioxidant defence» system, nitrogen oxide rating and endogenous intoxication rating in normothrophic piglets in the period from birth to weaning from sows was studied in the article. The research was carried in the industrial pig-breeding farm on piglets got from the third-farrow sows, before the intake of colostrum, at the age of 1, 7, 14, 22, and 26 days. Six animals were examined in each time period. It was found that the state of oxidative stress in newborn piglets before colostrum reception was characterized by a high blood level of malondialdehyde, medium-molecular peptides and high endogenous intoxication rating due to essential alteration of the oxygen regime of the organism because of the transition to the extrauterine state. Newborns and one-day piglets had high blood level of steady metabolites of nitrogen, which has antioxidant properties and being one of the factors of adaptation of the newborns' cardiovascular system to the new environment conditions. The increase in the content of malondialdehyde in the blood of piglets from 7 to 26 days of life indicates an increase in lipid oxidation and protein catabolism associated with the effects of technological and veterinary activities. The high level of catalase in piglets before colostrum reception and the increase of its activity in animals from 7 to 22 days of life and especially glutathione peroxidase from 14 days to their weaning from sows, as well as of the level of nitrogen oxide metabolites at 26 days of age contributed to the reduction of the level of toxic products of peroxidation, preventing the negative effects of neonatal stress. The results of research indicate the need to reduce the negative impact of stress on animals associated with technological and veterinary activities.
Keywords: piglets, antioxidant status, malondialdehyde, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, nitrogen oxide, endogenous intoxication, oxidative stress.
