Cadmium, nickel and chromium concentration in the snow cover of Oktyabrsky district of Ulan-Ude
Khanhasykov S.P., Tarmakova S.S.
Summary. Large number of small domestic animals suffering from cancer was identified in Ulan-Ude in recent years. 53 enterprises polluting the atmosphere are located on the territory of Oktyabrsky district. Authors have determined the presence of cadmium, nickel and chromium, being carcinogenic risk, in the snow cover of Ulan-Ude, which lasts for 148 days. Samples were taken in the III-IV decades of February, during the period of maximum thickness of snow cover.
Authors found that the samples of the snow cover in the Oktyabrsky district of Ulan-Ude in all areas were littered by inorganic carcinogenic contaminants (cadmium, nickel and chromium), except conditionally "pure" samples taken in the village Zabaykalsky in the woods.
The greatest number of contaminants was detected in the habitat of dogs with earlyidentified cancer and places of dog walking (especially in the roadside.) Research results were confirmed by the integral indice of air pollution in the Oktyabrsky district of Ulan-Ude.
Key words: Ulan-Ude, snow cover, cadmium, nickel, chrome, content, oncologic pathology, small domestic animals.
