Summary. New surfactants were synthesized and antibacterial activity against field isolates of Escherichia coli has been determined. Significant antibacterial activity of new surfactants was established, which inhibit the growth of all field isolates and Escherichia coli reference strain. The level of their activity exceeds the level of cephalosporins (cefazolin, cephalexin) and was close to the level of ciprofloxacin (an antibiotic from a number of fluoroquinolones). The results of the research confirm the conclusions of many researchers about the growing resistance of bacteria, the obtained data showed that antibiotics with the long history of the use were rapidly losing their antibacterial activity. Thus, field isolates of Escherichia coli (5 strains) were resistant to penicillins (amoxicillin, ampicillin, benzylpenicillin, oxacillin), to aminoglycosides (neomycin and kanamycin), to polymyxin and tetracycline, levomycetin and erythromycin. It has been confirmed that reference (museum) cultures of microorganisms are more sensitive to antibacterial drugs than field isolates. It was revealed that the reference strain of Escherichia coli RCM V-820 was sensitive to 13 compounds (65% of the tested drugs) and to all new surfactants, while field isolates of Escherichia coli No. 1 and No. 3 were sensitive to 9 compounds (45% of the drugs), and isolates No. 2, 4 and 5 they were sensitive to only 7 compounds (35% of the drugs). Of the traditional antibiotics that were tested in our experience, only gentamicin (an antibiotic from a number of macrolides) was active to field isolates of Escherichia coli (4 strains) and Escherichia coli reference strain RCM V-820.
