Summary. Echinococcal invasion of dogs as a parasitic threat to buffalo breeding in the southern regions of Russia tends to increase, but, unfortunately, this issue has not been studied enough. In this connection, the purpose of the study was determined - to study the epizootology of canine echinococcosis as a parasitic threat to buffalo breeding in the southern regions of Russia. The article is devoted to the assessment of the epizootological danger of echinococcosis invasion in the populations of dogs and sheep in the natural subzones of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic. In the climatic subzones of the steppe zone of Karachay-Cherkessia, canine echinococcosis poses a growing epizootological threat to buffalo breeding. In the steppe zone of Karachay-Cherkessia, the average index of occurrence of echinococcosis in dogs was 70.00%, which indicates a high level of colonization of the dog’s body by tapering stages of cestode and the likelihood of contamination of the external environment with eggs in the region. Echinococcosis of buffaloes in the ontext of climatic subzones has values in the extremely arid subzone, in the arid subzone, in the moderately arid subzone and in the subzone of sufficient moisture, respectively, 10.0; 20.0; 20.0; 30.0% (average 20.0%), indicating a high level of invasion. There is an increase in the abundance index of Echinococcus granulosus acephalocysts from 11.6±0.51 to 32.0±0.95 ind. per head in adult populations of buffalo in the dynamics of research. At the same time, in all years, the fertility of larvocysts was 0.00% with the complete absence of protoscolexes in echinococcal fluid. Indices of occurrence of echinococcosis in dogs correlate with the results of a number of authors.
Key words: Karachay-Cherkessia, zone, dog, buffaloes, Echinococcus granulosus, fertile cyst, protoscolexes, extensity, intensity, invasion.
