Distribution, therapy and prevention of sheep helminthosis in the Russian Federation

Summary. Sheep breeding is a very important branch of agriculture in many regions of the country. The economic damage resulting from the spread of helminthiasis is associated with a decrease in the body weight of animals, the quantity and quality of meat and wool, and a high death rate of young animals. The purpose of the article is to review the prevalence of the main helminthiasis of sheep in the territory of the Russian Federation and to present data on the effectiveness of sheep therapy for helminthiasis. The analysis of Russian-language articles on the prevalence of helminthiasis in sheep and the effectiveness of currently used anthelmintics is carried out. While writing the article, analytical, comparative and systematic methods of scientific research were used. Provides statistical data on the prevalence of helminthiasis of sheep in different regions of the country, including Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Volgograd region, the North Caucasus and Republic of Dagestan, Altai and Khakassia, the Stavropol territory, southern Urals Perm Krai and Chechen Republic. Data on the species composition of helminths, the occurrence of mono - and mixed infestations, as well as the extensiveness of sheep infestations in various regions of the country are given. According to the data obtained, among sheep parasitoses, in most regions, strongylatoses occupy the first place, and moniezioses take the second place. The prevalence of parasitic diseases among sheep contributes to the low culture of their content, high infestation of pastures with eggs and larvae of helminths, untimely and poorquality implementation of therapeutic and preventive measures, as well as the lack of control over the effectiveness of deworming. Stabilization of the parasitological situation with infestation of sheep with helminths is possible only when timely and annual deworming with highly effective drugs is carried out with mandatory diagnostic control of the efficiency of deworming.
