Summary. Despite numerous negative environmental factors, the organism of animals is in constant homeostatic equilibrium, which is regulated by many complex mechanisms, due to which the physiological parameters of the animal are maintained at a relatively constant level. Blood is an integrated environment of the organism, in which metabolites of all types are represented and their changes are the reflection of a huge number of biochemical processes occurring in the cellular structures of organs and systems. Such microelement as selenium plays a certain role in maintaining the homeostatic component of the body and intensifying metabolic processes. In this connection an experiment was carried out on 4 groups of calves at the age of 3 months with an average body weight of 100105 kg to assess the influence of the organoselenium preparation Selenolin on the biochemical status of the blood of young animals. The first experimental group was injected with Selenolin at the dose of 0.1 mg/kg body weight (2.5 ml) twice a month with an interval of 14 days, the second experimental group - at the dose of 0.2 mg/kg body weight (5 ml) twice per month with an interval of 14 days, the third experimental group - once at the dose of 0.4 mg/kg body weight (10 ml) once every 30 days. The control group was injected with soybean oil once every 30 days at the dose of 2.5 ml. It was determined that parenteral administration of Selenolin to calves has a positive effect on the biochemical composition of the blood. Thus, during the period of research, the concentration of total protein in the experimental groups increased by 16.0%; 15.3% and 18.6%, urea - by 26.8% (p<0.01); 40.8%; 22.7% (p<0.05), creatinine - by 32.1%; 20.1% and 51.7% (p<0.01). The glucose level in the groups in the dynamics increased by 26.1%; 25.0% (p<0.05) and 29.2%; triglycerides - by 31.3%; 33.3% and 50.0% (p<0.05), cholesterol - by 23.0%; 25.9% (p<0.01) and 37.0%, total calcium - by 19.6%; 23.3% and 10.4%. In the same groups, there was the decrease in the enzymatic activity - in aspartate aminotransferase by 39.9% (p<0.05), 47.5% (p<0.05) and 41.0%, respectively. The ALT concentration decreased in 2.27 (group 1) and 2.04 (group 3) (p<0.05) times. The selenium level in the first experimental group increased in 2.4 times; for other experimental groups - in 1.37 and 1.57 times. It was concluded that organic selenium in the composition of the preparation acts as a modulator of biochemical homeostasis of the animal organism.
