Regional epizootology of buffalo echinococcosis in plain zone of the republic of Kabardino-Balkaria

Summary. Buffaloes of the Caucasian population are reared in the backyards of rural settlements in the flat zone of the North Caucasus. Authors studied the features of the regional epizootology of buffalo echinococcosis in the plain zone of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. In backyards of 12 rural settlements in the lowland zone, buffaloes of the Caucasian population were infested with Echinococcus granulosus larvocysts with an extensiveness of invasion of 10.0-40.0% (on average, 21.7%) and an intensity of invasion of 12.0±1.99 - 35.1±4.51 specimens/ animal. The extent of invasion of cystic echinococcosis was highest in the buffaloes of the Caucasian population in New Balkaria (40.0%), Urozhaynoe (30.0%), Akbash (30.0%), Kurskiy (30.0%), Soldatskoe (30.0%) with fluctuations in the intensity of invasion of 11-66 (on average, 35.1±4.51), where year-round grazing on pasture is practiced, through which development is realized the biological cycle of this invasion. In other rural settlements of the plain zone, the extensiveness of echinococcosis invasion in buffalo varied within 10.0-20.0% and the intensity of invasion - 11-36. In the experiment, in all morphologically studied larvocysts of Echinococcus granulosus isolated from the liver and lungs of buffaloes of the Caucasian population, no protoscolexes of the cestode were found, which indicates the absolute non-participation of the buffaloes of the Caucasian population in the epizootic process of echinococcosis, since the development cycle of Echinococcus granulosis is not realized through the population of buffaloes granulosis, and the buffalo dog infection pattern is a biological dead end.
